Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and fled to a secure base in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Seekers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
